Spectacular images of nature's wonders revealed in photo competition

Two long-horned bees, a fossilized dinosaur bone, and a scientist administering medicine to a bird were some of the captivating images featured in the 2024 BMC Ecology and Evolution and BMC Zoology Image Competition. The winning photograph showcased a whale shark feeding on a school of snipefish herded by tuna off the Azores islands in Portugal. The image was taken by a marine biologist studying the impact of fishing on large ocean animals. The competition also awarded winners and runner-ups in categories such as research in action, relationships in nature, protecting our planet, and life close-up.
